Across The Board

Producer: Warner QUBE
Host: Nelson Davis
Announcer: Dale Ulmer
Taping Info: July 22, 1977
Made it to Air: The episode aired on QUBE. It was not a series.
Availability: It's on the trading circuit.

Another attempt by the interactive cable system developed by Warner QUBE for Columbus, Ohio to make an interactive game show. Local weatherman Nelson Davis is the host for this kiddie show that has many pointless interactive features.

Two kids attempted to move across a 4x4 hex board by either making a top-down or a left-right connection. The viewers at home determined how many spaces the player moved, either one, two or three spaces. When landing on a hexagon, the player then attempted a stunt or answered a question. If the player was successful, the hexagon was added to their collection. The prize collection included records, cereal and board games. Prizes could also be won on home viewers.

It may have been a hit with the kiddies, but to me it just seemed like a version of Beat the Clock with a pointless interactive component. Nelson Davis had the kiddie-show lingo down by talking down to the kids and referring to the announcer as Uncle Dale. However, if you want more of Nelson, check out Nelson's web site.

Prizes include Frampton Comes Alive, although they show the cover for I'm in You
